Spiders vs Bees

Before getting to know about the similarities and differences between spiders and bees, it is essential that we know a bit about them. 

There are more than 45,000 known species of spiders and some of their characteristic features are as follows –

Firstly, they have eight legs. Well, that is why spiders aren’t considered to be insects but rather “arachnids”. They are the largest order of arachnids. 

They belong to the phylum “Arthropoda” and kingdom “Animalia”. They have three stages of development – egg, spiderling, and adult.

Most spiders are predatory in nature and are poisonous. They have fangs as well but they are not strong enough to penetrate human flesh.


Now, it is time to learn about these tiny and maybe pretty bees, which have more than 20,000 known species.

Their characteristic features are stated below –

Firstly, bees are insects (they have 3 pairs of legs) and they play a vital role in pollination and hence are also known as pollinators. They belong to the suborder apocrita and are presently considered a clade, called Anthophila.

Bees belong to the kingdom Animalia and phylum arthropoda just like the spiders. They have four distinct stages of development – egg, larva, pupa, and adult. They have a lifespan ranging from 28 days to 60 days depending on their species.

Spiders and Bees are well-known creatures falling under the kingdom Animalia.

Both of them belong to the same order and phylum. But, bees are insects whereas spiders are arachnids.

They have significant differences when it comes to their lifespan as well. Spiders can live upto 2 years whereas bees have comparatively a shorter lifespan ranging from 28 days to 60 days.
